The Coconut Tree Methodology is a large-scale installation that brings together video, sound, kinetic sculpture, living plants, and fallen coconut trees gathered from the coastlines of Bantayan Island in the Philippines. Developed from over fifteen years of artistic research, the exhibition reflects on how environmental change reveals the social, political, and economic structures that shape everyday life.

At the center of the installation are coconut trees uprooted by coastal erosion and rising sea levels. For Atienza, these trees became some of the first witnesses to climate change on the island. Through moving image, light, sound, and movement, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a landscape of observation and reflection, inviting visitors to consider the interconnected relationships between land, sea, community, and survival.

The exhibition also marks the articulation of The Coconut Tree Methodology: a way of working developed through long-term engagement with place, grounded in observation, collective learning, and the belief that solutions emerge through the continuous process of asking questions together.
